Ten Days Old

Zinger is a very patient and tolerant Mom!  The pups even sleep on her neck!  One peep and she is there to attend them.  Good Mama Dog!

Here are some pictures taken today. We actually managed one non-blurry shot each. I am holding on a blanket as Skip tries to capture these wiggling puppies.

 Seven and Bat Girl are good size now.  Glory - easy to spot due to her lighter coloring - is close behind.  Morse is catching up fast.

Here is an unusual way to get head shots!  

So our puppy days are over for a couple of weeks.  Skip and I just returned from taking Zinger and family out to Charlotte's.  My school is not over for another 3 and a half weeks, so they will stay with Charlotte and go to work with her.  We get visitation rights, however!  And the week-end after next, they will be back here for the week-end. Will be sure to post again after that. Their eyes will be open and they should be up on their feet - though perhaps wobbly.  Should be  time for a video!  

Eight Days Old

As with all newborns, the pups pretty much eat and sleep all the time.  In spite of the fact, they scoot a great distance, I never seem to have the camera out when they are on a journey.  Still waiting for those action shots. 

 I just loaded about fifteen pictures and they all looked much like these! You can see how much they have gained over the week.  Check out those fat little tummies!

Charlotte stopped in to see the pups last night on her way to a Nosework Competition with Pip. They were showing off for her...wagging tails and all!

Tuesday - Pups are 4 days old!

A couple of the pups were showing off their "name" symbols tonight.  Thought you might like to see how we ended up with the names we did!

Below is is Bat Girl.  It looked even more like a Bat symbol when she was first born.  But Bat Girl it has remained.

Above is Seven.  His mark is clearly a "Seven".

Above is a pretty good shot of Morse.  Nice head!

Haven't succeeded in a shot of Glory yet.  As you can see here, they are all grizzle but Glory is much lighter. (Lower right)

Charlotte is at Nationals.  I am puppy sitter this week.  My absolutely wonderful principal has allowed me to bring them to school every day.  They have learned quickly.  Quiet in the crate in the corner except for satisfied squeaks and a couple of "help me" squeals when they can not find what they need on Mom!  Good pups and great MOM!
 My students are being terrific...quiet with no loud noises.  A quick peak from a distance while Zinger enjoys licks of peanut butter off my finger - is educational for both kids and Mama dog.

For Facebook Readers: this is old information.   Thursday evening ended up a "slumber party" at Charlotte's home.  Bonny (my 5 year old BT) and I packed up to join the fun.  We got to "slumber" from about 10 to 2.  Then Zinger went into high drive nesting/labor.  It took several hours before the first girl was born.  She was a big girl.  It took lots of work on Zinger's part and lots of nervous sweat on the waiting human's part...but she arrived safely.  After that a puppy every hourish.

You may have noticed that indeed there were five pups born.  In spite of a trip to the vet and a day working on him, the little guy did not make it.  It was hard and sad.  However, we must celebrate. We have four healthy pups...two boys and two girls.

Actually, Charlotte and I were so focused on the little guy and saving him, we stopped watching Zinger - assuming she was done.  I checked to see how the other three were doing - SURPRISE - I counted four pups instead of three!  Another little boy was born with no help at all.  

Final Post for Zinger/Bravo litter.

Charlotte tells me all the pups have homes and will soon be leaving.  Last week-end we went for the "8 week old pup evaluation" and learned that all these puppies are excellently made pups!  Not news to us! We knew already that they were terrific - sweet and loving pups.  After the evaluation, Zinger rejoined our family.  Bonny and Zinger are very happy to be together again.

Junior has already left with his father's (Bravo) breeder to live in Ohio.  Tye is going to Colorado.  Chai is going to Vancouver, BC.  Charlotte has decided to keep Bryce.  Hopefully everyone will stay in touch so we can see the pups as they grow.  

As you can see, all you need to do is "sit down" and you will have a lap full of dog!  Here are some photos to prove it!

Touille is the pup's Grandma.  She is the ultimate "lap" dog and was just waiting for an opportunity to steal the lap.  I think she is laughing at her sly advance onto Skip's lap!

Here are some individual shots.  Skip was "forced" to hold the pups for pictures as they really do not like to stay still for pictures.  It was a hard job but someone had to do it!

Tye - this boy likes to chew!  Nice sharp puppy teeth!!

Bryce has sharp teeth and also likes to chew.  Imagine that!  He is also a "lover"!  Lots of 'lick kisses'.

Chai is a really sweet girl.  Likes to give 'lick kisses' also.  (OK...they all do.) 

After about a half hour of play, they were all tuckered out.  (They had already been outside for a long time before we got there.) Seemed appropriate to end the blog with another "sleeping" puppy picture or two.

 As our time with the pups draws to a close, it seemed some up to date "head" photos were in order. It takes two of us to slow them down enough to take head shots.  Here they are..in order of birth.

Bryce - not the largest any longer (just closer when taking the picture). I love the unique coloring he has. Charlotte says he is a dark grizzle.  I think he is a "blue wanna-be".
 Think we need to change his name to "Chewy". Wow is he chewing these days.  Human fingers are a favorite. Skip's fingers are especially delicious!

Tiberius - definitely the largest right now.  Loves to eat. No problems chomping on wet chow. Nicknamed "tubby Tye"! What a sweet guy he is.

Bravo Junior - close to Tiberius in size.  Has become a very confident and happy boy.  Also very cuddly. (maybe like his Dad?)

Chai - very dainty but knows how to rule her brothers! Where Bryce chews on human fingers, Chai chews on her brothers. 

Zinger does a great deal of monitoring now from the "outside".
Thinking it might be the teeth?!!  Plus the pups are getting other food as well as Mom's.  They do enjoy the comfort of Mom's milk however.

5 weeks old today

I cannot believe it has been five weeks since these pups were born.  The weeks have flown.  It is looking like the pups will go to Charlotte no later than Friday...perhaps sooner.   We shall miss them.

It is so easy to spend hours in a day watching the pups.  They are cute even when they sleep and much easier to take pictures of!  Sometimes the pups appear to be dreaming with jerks, growls, and last week one howled!  Here are some shots of sleeping pups.

Exploring new things

The pups are 4 weeks old.  They need more than their pup pen provides.  Today I created a floor pen with more interesting things to explore and recorded their first visit to the new play environment.  This video catches the first real toy play I have seen.  And of course, as soon as I stopped recording, several walked over the teeter board!  Tunnels are not really new but space is so limited in the pup pen, that they have not really used them except to crawl in to sleep.  When they go off to Charlotte's house, in a little over a week, they should be ready for the new and exciting challenges she provides all her pups.  

Hmmmm...grass!

It is a delightful afternoon...time for the pups to experience grass!  Zinger's first reaction to this plan was to protect...and feed.  

Once that was done, the pups began to explore.  It is much easier to get photos in the grass.  Hope you enjoy.  It is sometimes hard to tell in photos who is who.  I think they are labeled correctly.

The pups will be 4 weeks old on Sunday!  Already!  

We have had a number of visitors lately, including children. I appreciate my friends who take the time to come by and socialize the pups.  Zinger and Bonny do not see children often, so I was delighted to see how well they have interacted when the visitors were "short" people. The adult dogs were not too sure about our three year old visitor on his first visit.  However, the second time, all was fine.  Watching the puppies eat proved most interesting and educational for him. These two young ladies were super careful and gentle with the babies.

Zinger enjoys these chew toys.  In fact, she runs around outside much of the time with a toy in her mouth, trying to get Bonny to chase her.  She dropped one off in the puppy pen when she fed the puppies.  Chai is checking it out!  Yup, the teeth "buds" are there.  Teeth should be coming in soon.
